Workshop in creating an alternative map of a city with artists Mahmoud Dabdoub, Elisabeth Liselotte Kraus and Nour Sokhon
Supported by: Doris Wuppermann Stiftung
What could an alternative map of a city look like? A City in Fragments is a workshop that invites participants to engage in a series of exercises that archive the cityscape and individual stories of arrival through a series of artistic gestures. The workshop is made up of artistic exercises including writing postcards to somewhere else, drawing in empty spaces of the city, listening to sounds of elsewhere and the collective creation of a city soundscape. These elements invite the participants to explore the following questions: How does a day in the city sound? What would you like to say to this city? How does the city behave? and how do you wish it behaved? How do you feel in this city?
Across the workshop period, a collective map is created that is formed from fragments of each exercise. The map is then printed and shared with others who wish to explore the city along an alternative route.
This workshop was first initiated in the context of the exhibition Distant Divides in Leipzig across two days.
